Fredssymposiet i 2026 blir et nordisk samarbeid!

Sommeren 2023 ble Nordisk Fredsallianse  etablert i Helsingør, en samling av mer enn 30 fredsorganisasjoner i Norden.. Sommeren 2024 holdt de sin sommersamling og sitt årsmøte i Finnland, og i 2025 i Sverige. I 2026 er det Norge som skal være vertsland, og  organisasjonen har takket ja til Hardangerakademiets invitasjon  om å slå sammen deres årlige  samling med vårt årlige fredssymposium. Felles planlegging er i full gang!

Nordisk Fredsallianses årsmøte begynner fredag kl. 14.00

Fredssymposiet/konferansen åpner  fredag 31. juli kl. 18.30 og varer til søndag 2.august  kl.14.00

HVORDAN KAN NORDEN BIDRA TIL FRED OG STANS I VÅPENKAPPLØPET? 

Hovedtema som blir tatt opp er:

• Verden i dag
• Arktisk råds nye utfordringer
• Russland og Norden idag
• HELSINKI + 50 for felles sikkerhet og menneskerettigheter i Europa

Temaene blir belyst av nordiske fredsforskere og medarbeidere og kunstnere og blir bearbeidet gjennom dialoger, panelsamtaler og workshops og avsluttet med sirkelsamtale i plenum.

Ingeborg Breines

Ingeborg Breines har vært generalsekretær i Den norske Nasjonalkommisjon for Unesco, direktør for kvinnespørsmål og for programmet Kvinner og fredskultur i Unesco, Paris samt direktør for Unescos kontor i Islamabad og Genève. Breines har vært president for International Peace Bureau og daglig leder for Nordland Akademi for Kunst og Vitenskap

Frida Stranne

Frida Stranne er førsteamanuensis i freds- og utviklingsforskning og foreleser ved Halmstad Universitet. Hun har forsket på, undervist og forelest om amerikansk politikk, utenrikspolitikk og sosial utvikling i mer enn to tiår, og regnes i dag som en av Sveriges mest kunnskapsrike og engasjerte USA-eksperter.

Frida Stranne er forfatteren av to anerkjente bøker. Supermakten – Hva hver svenske burde vite om USA (Mondial, 2020), skrevet sammen med DN-journalisten Sanna Torén Björling, forklarer de historiske, økonomiske og kulturelle kreftene som har formet dagens USA.

I The Illusion of American Peace* (Ordfront, 2023), skrevet sammen med Trita Parsi ved Quincy Institute i Washington, analyserer hun hvordan Sveriges og Europas økende avhengighet av USA påvirker vår utenrikspolitiske uavhengighet og posisjon i en verden i rask endring.

Ove Jakobsen

Ove Jakobsen er professor ved institutt for økologisk økonomi og etikk ved Nord Universitetet i Bodø. Han arbeider med samspillet mellom økonomi, samfunn og natur, og formidler sin forskning i bøker, artikler og seminarer. Ove Jakobsen er en etterspurt foredragsholder innen økologisk økonomi både i  inn- og utland.

John Y. Jones

John Y. Jones er cand.philol. fra Universitetet i Oslo med amerikansk kultur med jødisk amerikansk litteratur som spesiale. Han arbeidet med bistand og utviklingsspørsmål på 80-tallet hos UNICEF-Norge, ledet senere Diakonhjemmets internasjonale senter, opprettet utviklingsgruppa IGNIS og senere Networkers SouthNorth og drev Dag Hammarskjöld-programmet ved Voksenåsen kultursenter i Oslo i en årrekke. I dag er han frilans journalist tilknyttet kvartalsmagasinet NY TID/Orientering med temaene fred og konflikt, og sitter i styret og redaksjonsrådet der. De siste årene har han spesielt viet sin tid til koreanske fredsspørsmål og temaene åpenhet og varsling, med en serie norske og europeiske arrangement for å sette lys på saken mot publisisten Julian Assanges. John sitter i styret for fredsstiftelsen «Lay Down Your Arms».

Tytti Erästö

Dr. Tytti Erästö er seniorforsker i SIPRIs Mass Destruction Programme, med fokus på spørsmål knyttet til atomvåpenkontroll, nedrustning og ikke-spredning, inkludert multilaterale rammeverk og temaer som atomvåpens rolle i militære allianser, regional risikoreduksjon og strategisk stabilitetsdynamikk blant atomvåpenstater. Tidligere har hun jobbet ved Plowshares Fund i Washington D.C. og ved Harvard Kennedy School’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs.

Reiner Braun

Reiner Braun, f. i 1952, studerte tysk litteratur, historie og journalistikk. Han var aktivt involvert i fredsbevegelsens «Krefeld-appell» på 1980-tallet. Braun sitter i styret for «Scientists’ Initiative – Responsibility for Peace and Sustainability» og var administrerende direktør i IALANA, samt med-president og administrerende direktør i International Peace Bureau fra 2013 til 2022. Han er for tiden styremedlem i IPB..Reiner Braun er sjefredaktør for «Zeitung gegen den Krieg» og forfatter av flere bøker om fred. Han er aktiv i ulike fredsbevegelsesprosjekter, som Ukraina-initiativet og Stop Air Base Ramstein.

Sindre Mørk

Sindre Mørk er statsviter med mastergrad fra Universitetet i Oslo. Han har en dobbel bachelorgrad fra London School of Economics (LSE) og Higher School of Economics (HSE) i Moskva, hvor han bodde og studerte i flere år. Studieoppholdet falt sammen med pandemien, utbruddet av krigen i Ukraina og Prigozhins kuppforsøk i juni 2023, noe som ga ham nær innsikt i den russiske samfunns- og politikk-utviklingen i løpet av krigen. Masteroppgaven hans, «Russian Think Tanks and the High North: Strategic Narratives on Norway and Arctic Security, 2013–2025», er den første studien som undersøker hvordan russiske tenketanker fremstiller Norge som sikkerhetsaktør i nordområdene. Han har tidligere sittet i styret i Norges Fredslag og er redaksjonsmedlem i tidsskriftet Sosialistisk Framtid.

The 2026 Peace Symposium will be a Nordic collaboration!

In the summer of 2023, the Nordic Peace Alliance was established in Helsingør, a gathering of more than 30 peace organizations in the Nordic region. In the summer of 2024, they held their summer gathering and annual meeting in Finland, and in 2025 in Sweden. In 2026, Norway will be the host country, and the organization has accepted the Hardanger Academy’s invitation to combine their annual gathering with our annual peace symposium.

The Nordic Peace Alliance’s annual meeting begins on Friday at 2:00 PM

HOW CAN THE NORDIC REGIONS CONTRIBUTE TO PEACE AND A STOP TO THE ARMS RACE?

The main topics that will be addressed are:

• The world today
• The Arctic Council’s new challenges
• Russia and the Nordic Region today
• HELSINKI + 50 for common security and human rights in Europe

The topics will be highlighted by Nordic peace researchers and collaborators and artists and will be processed through dialogues, panel discussions and workshops and concluded with a circle discussion in plenary.

Ingeborg Breines

Ingeborg Breines has been Secretary General of the Norwegian National Commission for UNESCO, Director for Women’s Issues and for the Women and Culture of Peace program in UNESCO, Paris, and Director of UNESCO’s offices in Islamabad and Geneva. Breines has been president of the International Peace Bureau and general manager of the Nordland Academy of Arts and Sciences

She is the author of the book: Peace Culture – Utopia or Security Policy Alternative?

Frida Stranne

Frida Stranne is an associate professor of peace and development studies and a lecturer at Halmstad University. She has researched, taught and lectured on American politics, foreign policy and social development for more than two decades, and is today considered one of Sweden’s most knowledgeable and committed US experts.

Frida Stranne is the author of two acclaimed books. The Superpower – What Every Swede Should Know About the USA (Mondial, 2020), co-written with DN journalist Sanna Torén Björling, explains the historical, economic and cultural forces that have shaped today’s USA.

In The Illusion of American Peace* (Ordfront, 2023), co-written with Trita Parsi at the Quincy Institute in Washington, she analyzes how Sweden’s and Europe’s increasing dependence on the US affects our foreign policy independence and position in a rapidly changing world.

Ove Jakobsen

Ove Jakobsen is a professor at the Department of Ecological Economics and Ethics at Nord University in Bodø. He works on the interaction between economy, society and nature, and communicates his research in books, articles and seminars. Ove Jakobsen is a sought-after speaker in ecological economics both at home and abroad.

John Y. Jones

John Y. Jones holds a cand.philol. from the University of Oslo with a specialization in American culture and Jewish American literature. He worked with aid and development issues in the 1980s at UNICEF-Norway, later headed the Diakonhjemmet International Center, established the development group IGNIS and later Networkers SouthNorth, and ran the Dag Hammarskjöld program at Voksenåsen Cultural Center in Oslo for a number of years. Today, he is a freelance journalist affiliated with the quarterly magazine NY TID/Orientering with the themes of peace and conflict, and sits on the board and editorial board there. In recent years, he has particularly devoted his time to Korean peace issues and the themes of transparency and whistleblowing, with a series of Norwegian and European events to shed light on the case against the publicist Julian Assange. John sits on the board of the peace foundation: Lay Down Your Arms.

Tytti Erästö

Dr. Tytti Erästö is a Senior Research Fellow in SIPRI’s Mass Destruction Programme, focusing on issues related to nuclear arms control, disarmament and non-proliferation, including multilateral frameworks and topics such as the role of nuclear weapons in military alliances, regional risk reduction and strategic stability dynamics among nuclear-weapon states. She has previously worked at the Ploughshares Fund in Washington D.C. and at Harvard Kennedy School’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs.

Tony Jenkins

Tony Jenkis is the Director of the International Institute on Peace Education. More information to come.

Reiner Braun

Reiner Braun, born in 1952, studied German literature, history and journalism. He was actively involved in the peace movement’s “Krefeld Appeal” in the 1980s. Braun is on the board of the “Scientists’ Initiative – Responsibility for Peace and Sustainability” and was the CEO of IALANA, as well as co-president and CEO of the International Peace Bureau from 2013 to 2022. He is currently a board member of IPB. Reiner Braun is editor-in-chief of “Zeitung gegen den Krieg” and author of several books on peace. He is active in various peace movement projects, such as the Ukraine Initiative and Stop Air Base Ramstein.

Sindre Mørk

Sindre Mørk is a political scientist with a master’s degree from the University of Oslo. He holds a double bachelor’s degree from the London School of Economics (LSE) and the Higher School of Economics (HSE) in Moscow, where he lived and studied for several years. His study stay coincided with the pandemic, the outbreak of the war in Ukraine and Prigozhin’s coup attempt in June 2023, which gave him close insight into Russian social and political developments during the war. His master’s thesis, «Russian Think Tanks and the High North: Strategic Narratives on Norway and Arctic Security, 2013–2025», is the first study to examine how Russian think tanks portray Norway as a security actor in the High North. He has previously served on the board of the Norwegian Peace Association and is an editorial member of the journal Sosialistisk Framtid.
